How Can We Evolve as a Species?

If humanity were to evolve to its highest potential, what do you think society and our systems would look like?

As a species, we are inflicting severe damage upon our global ecosystem and rapidly pushing ourselves towards an extinction crisis. Therefore, it is important that we urgently pause and reflect upon our past mistakes and strive towards devising better systems to ensure a sustainable future.

We are capable of more.

If we take a moment to contemplate the kind of world we want to leave behind for future generations, most of us would agree that it differs from the world we live in now.

Each one of us possesses the potential to contribute to the creation of a better world. Would you like to see transformations in public education, the economy/workplace, political institutions, or the ways in which individuals interact in both personal and professional relationships?

Each of us plays an instrumental role in the collective evolution of society. Although it is not always possible to measure the impact we make every day, we should never underestimate our power to bring about change—our choices matter more than we know.

THE FUTURE OF TRANSHUMANISM AND AI

Transhumanism is a movement toward using technologies such as genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, and nanotechnology to enhance human beings.

Gene editing of human DNA has already begun, and although most of us welcome medical advancements to help alleviate human suffering, there is a risk of misuse.

Just as governments must regulate the unsustainable business practices of corporations currently contributing to our ecological crisis, they must also monitor the use of artificial intelligence and genetic enhancement of affluent individuals who possess a thirst for power.

At a time when our global ecosystem is collapsing, those with the resources to help solve our global crises have an opportunity to demonstrate an evolved concern for the greater good, rather than focusing solely on their self-interest.

Our human instincts toward greed, territorialism, and the pursuit of power have evolved slower than the growth of civilization and technology.

As a species, it is critical that we develop a deeper understanding of our global interconnectedness, and learn to balance intellect and animal instincts with social consciousness, emotional intelligence, and a mindset of unity.

Artificial intelligence (AI) should only be in the hands of the wise—those who understand our interdependence with nature and each other.
